Custom Shark Tooth Electroforming

These guidelines cover all aspects of my custom shark tooth electroforming (also referred to as plating). All of the information is very important and applies to all orders you send, so please read them entirely. These guidelines cover all aspects of my custom electroforming, including my pricing. Please read these terms and conditions carefully. By contracting my services, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions contained herein. These terms and conditions are subject to change without notice, from time to time at my sole discretion. Amendments to these terms and conditions will be posted to this web site.

At this time, I only electroform for customers in the U.S. and Canada.

Important: A totally invisible, baked-on protective coating will be applied to the gold on each tooth to provide greater abrasion resistance and durability. This coating will never turn color, chip, or peel.

Checklist for sending items for plating:

Always let me know ahead of time by email or phone call that a package is on its way. Remember to include your address, a daytime phone number, and cell phone number in your package so I can call you if I have any questions. I will not share these numbers with anyone. In this email, if you have a particular deadline for items to be returned to you, you absolutely must let me know what the exact deadline is. I will let you know if I think I can meet that deadline. Please keep in mind that all estimated completion dates are approximations, not guarantees. I will not be responsible for any monetary losses a customer may incur for missed deadlines.

Include an inventory sheet with the total number of each of the items you sent (and make sure you have a copy for yourself). Individual packets should have quantity numbers written on them as well. This eliminates confusion about just how many pieces are in the package and avoids mix-ups. I photograph all items when they arrive, and I strongly suggest you do the same before you ship them.

If items are sent that are in pairs, be absolutely sure to indicate on the package that they are pairs, and clearly show which ones go with each other.

If you want a bail attached somewhere other than centered on the root, let me know when you send a package. You can put a dot with a fine-tipped magic marker on the place you want a bail to be attached. I can add extra bails or otherwise customize the electroforming, so just call me or email me with special requests. A slightly different price may result for customizing. When sending items for customized electroforming, drawn sketches are very helpful.

Special considerations when sending items to be electroformed:

When sending expensive or rare items, be aware that there is always some risk involved in plating items. Although very rare, it is possible that an item can be damaged by the acids in my plating solutions. I have over twenty years of electroforming experience and have many products I can use to minimize the risk of damage to any item being plated, but I do not guarantee any pieces that are being plated. I will not be responsible for any damage that may occur to any piece being plated, including replacing or reimbursing for any damaged items, no matter what the reason.

When electroforming teeth, I smooth the roots first using fillers and coatings of various types if needed. This results in a much smoother surface that plates much brighter. Not all roots can be smoothed perfectly, though, so I can only promise to make the best effort possible. Roots that are badly damaged or have missing parts can be restored using an epoxy putty. There will be an extra charge for this, and you must be willing to accept my judgment as to how the root should be restored. All shark teeth will be electroformed using my standard bails. I do not plate any teeth without a bail or ring for attaching to a necklace.

There may be slight variations in the gold plating color, thickness of metal deposition, and variations in appearance even on similar items. This is due to the natural variations expected with electroforming. All efforts will be taken to keep these variations to a minimum.

I electroform all teeth with a thickness of gold that is greater than the minimum required to legally call something gold plated. My gold solutions have additives that make the finish more abrasion-resistant and durable. However, I do not offer any guarantees or warranties on the life of the gold plating. I recommend that electroformed pendants be treated like any other quality jewelry, and not be worn when bathing or swimming. If storing the jewelry for prolonged periods, keep it at room temperature, in a relatively low-humidity area. After prolonged wear, wiping the electroformed gold with a soft cloth will help restore the original luster.

Pricing Guide

There is a strict minimum order of $35 (not counting shipping and insurance). While I will process orders that total less than $35, the invoice for services will still be $35.

For the best value, if you have only one item to send, consider sending enough additional items to reach that minimum amount.

My shark tooth pricing guidelines are based on the size of the item to be plated and are just that, guidelines. The prices listed are for plating the roots of teeth only. If you have pieces that you want entirely plated in gold or along the edges of the blades, there will be a small additional cost for the extra labor and gold required. The price for plating will include smoothing any roots as necessary for a shinier and more-reflective finish. Not all tooth roots can be perfectly smoothed, however. Severely damaged or pitted roots will be slightly higher in price for the extra labor necessary to smooth them and/or restore them to their anatomically correct shape. If the root is restored, I will use my discretion to determine the accurate restoration. If you wish to have a price quoted on some or all of the pieces before I plate them, let me know and I will provide you with a total price (minus shipping and insurance) in advance.

When plating large orders, I may elect to send some pieces before the others are completed, and an invoice will be sent listing the items in the partial shipment. This invoice is due when it is received.

  • Items up to 1 inch in height or width: $12.50

All packages are shipped by USPS priority mail, with insurance and delivery confirmation. The insurance will cover only the cost I am charging for electroforming. If you wish to have the items insured to also cover the cost of the items when you bought them, you MUST include this information in the instructions (including the amount) when you send the package. Otherwise, that insurance will not be added and I will not be responsible for the cost of the items.

If delivery confirmation shows that a package was delivered, then I consider it delivered. After the delivery is confirmed, I will not be responsible for any loss or theft of the package.

Invoices are sent through PayPal via an email. You can make the payment by following the PayPal link in the email, and you do not have to be a member of PayPal to make a credit card payment. If you wish to pay by other means, please contact me in advance.

VERY IMPORTANT: All invoices are due when you receive it by email, not when your package arrives. In order to keep orders shipped out on a timely basis, I do not offer other payment terms. No orders will be shipped and no work will begin on any new orders until all invoices that have been sent are paid.

No refunds will be accepted without notifying me first. All merchandise purchased on my quantity discount page must be returned within 21 days of the purchase date, provided the merchandise has been unworn and is in exactly the same condition as it was sent. Once I have examined them to see if they warrant a refund, a full refund will be issued, minus the cost for all shipping and insurance. When returning quantity discount items, the entire order must be returned. I do not allow a buyer to pick and choose which of the quantity to keep and then return the rest. All items being returned must be sent with delivery confirmation. If items are lost in shipping without delivery confirmation, I will not be responsible for those items and a refund will not be given.

Custom plated pieces may not be returned unless there is a significant flaw in the plating or the item was damaged in shipping. In the event of an incorrect order or goods damaged in shipment (which is very unlikely), a full refund will be made, including shipping and insurance, provided the merchandise has been returned for my inspection within 21 days of the date of arrival. All items being returned must be sent with delivery confirmation. If items are lost in shipping without delivery confirmation, I will not be responsible for those items and a refund will not be given.

In addition to offering custom electroforming for jewelers, I have a retail website where I sell my own electroformed jewelry pendants. I also offer electroformed pendants to jewelers, stores, shops, boutiques etc. I have offered hundreds of different items for many years and will continue to do so, including on Etsy, Facebook, Instagram, etc. I do not offer items that are duplicates of my customers' totally unique designs. However, I will continue to offer items that are commonly electroformed, are offered on other websites , or are of the same or similar types of designs or materials that I currently sell or have sold in the past.
